Welcome to Plan di Coces, a small gem nestled in the Val d’Incarojo, within the municipality of Arta Terme in the province of Udine!
Our accommodation is located in the mountains, the highest being Tersadia and Creta di Mezzodì. There is also a river that runs through the valley, providing the opportunity to visit waterfalls and gorges, a rocky area between vertical walls caused by the regressive erosion of water.
Just behind Plan di Coces, you will find a beautiful forest where autumn foliage offers unique colors. Here you can also enjoy wonderful walks listening to the deer’s bellows or simply the enveloping silence of autumn.
Plan di Coces offers the opportunity to get lost in the nearby woods and forests thanks to the numerous trails that branch out on the surrounding mountains. In this section, you will find some tips on walks and tours to take on foot or by bicycle or mountain bike.
Thanks to our partnership with Komoot (a site that allows you to plan nature excursions), we have created collections of our favorite hikes to do on foot or by bike.
In these collections, you can find information on length, travel time, altitude difference, gpx track, type of terrain, difficulty level, and highlights (places most loved by the Komoot community).
Located at 442 m asl, the town of Arta Terme is nationally known for its spa, equipped with a modern wellness center that exploits the beneficial effects of the Pudia spring waters, already known in Roman times. The spa offers numerous services including pools and saunas, massage area, beauty center, fitness area, rehabilitation area, and refreshment area. For more information, you can visit this page.
Arta is the ideal place for regenerating wellness holidays, as well as an excellent starting point for splendid excursions among alpine pastures and shelters. In the district of Piano d’Arta, it is worth visiting the Parish Church with its unique octagonal shape, the 13th-century church of San Nicolò degli Alzeri, and that of Santo Spirito with 15th-century frescoes.
Cabia is a small hamlet of Arta located at the top of a hill at 753 m asl, offering a panoramic view of the But valley. Its particular geographical position allows it to receive sunlight throughout the day, regardless of the season, making it one of the most interesting places in the area. Cabia is renowned for the Casato dei Capitani distillery, founded towards the end of the 1600s and now managed by the fourth generation of the Gortani family. To preserve the ancient tradition and obtain high-quality products, only fresh and top-quality fruit is used as raw material, distilled using copper bodies with experience and passion handed down over the years. The flagship product is the “Sliwovitz,” a plum distillate that represents the history and tradition of Cabia, alongside the refined and genuine pear distillate. The production also includes Blueberry, Raspberry, Caraway, Berry, Strawberry, and Blackberry Elixirs.
Originally Iulium Carnicum, Zuglio is an ancient Roman center probably founded during Julius Caesar’s pre-consulate (59-49 BC) near the Via Iulia Augusta and is today the main archaeological center of Carnia. In the excavation area, you can admire the remains of the ancient buildings that were part of the ancient Roman city of Iulium Carnicum: the civil basilica (early imperial age), the base of the covered portico with Tuscan capital columns, a sector of the paved platea with some statue bases, the podium of the Temple, the cryptoporticus (semi-underground room) of the basilica with a staircase leading to the first floor. Many pre-Roman, Roman, and early medieval finds are also exhibited in the Civic Archaeological Museum Iulium Carnicum, located in Palazzo Tommasi Leschiutta, a short distance from the Forum. Located in the center of Val D’Incarojo, Paularo is appreciated for its unspoiled nature and numerous high-altitude hiking opportunities. We recommend a walk through the streets of the historic center, where you can admire Palazzo Calice Screm, an architectural complex with characteristic overlapping loggias considered the prototype of the Carnic house, and the 18th-century Palazzo Linussio Fabiani, home of Jacopo Linussio’s family, creator of one of the largest 18th-century textile manufactories in Europe. In the shops of the center, you can buy traditional Carnic craft items: rustic furniture, plates, bowls, wooden cutting boards, baskets, and gerlas, as well as traditional clothes and scarpets. Worth visiting is the Mozartina, a precious collection of ancient and modern musical instruments. To book a guided tour, we recommend this page.
With a drop of about 30m, this waterfall surrounded by reddish-yellow rocks formed about 250 million years ago creates a unique amphitheater. The water of the Rio Roia unexpectedly emerges from the rocks surrounded by vegetation, leaving visitors speechless. The waterfall is easily accessible from the hamlet of Salino, continuing along the road to Trello. The car can be parked by the roadside where there is a small parking area.
